1: Hanoi – Lang Son (150 Km)
An easy first day’s bdriving out of the Red River Delta
and then alongside the first of countless limestone karst
mountain slopes up to the bustling border town of Lang
Son. (L, D)
Day 2: Lang Son – Cao Bang (150 Km)
Heading up an old French road where colonial forces
suffered numerous defeats due to the imposing landscape,
we wind our way on remote roads to Cao Bang. (B, L, D)
Day 3: Exploration north of Cao Bang
We ride to the cave where Ho Chi Minh sheltered during the
French occupation and take a dip in a remote mountain
lake. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Ban Gioc Waterfall (80 Km)
We make our way through spectacular limestone karst
scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Cao Bang – Ba Be Lake (130 Km)
Drive up and over one of the longest passes in Vietnam on
sealed road past forest dwellers who sell fresh forest
honey and bee alcohol. Overnight in a Tay ethnic village
on the shores of Ba Be Lake. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Ba Be Lake
Cruise by long boat up the lake’s 7 km length, pass
through the massive 300 meter long Phuong Van cave, trek
to waterfalls and eat with friends in a forested gorge.

Day 7: Ba Be Lake – Hanoi (250 Km)
Drive back through forest populated by Thai and Tay
peoples to the Red River Delta and Hanoi. (B, L)
